Introduction:
The fields of Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) and Crisis/Trauma Response are inseparably connected.

The TES Model is focused on initial response to crises as well as traumatic aftermath (months to years following a tragedy) but it also addresses strengthening pre-trauma functioning of individuals, families, schools, workplaces and communities. TES and VTRA are complimentary models that could be considered opposite sides of the same coin and as such, the original “Trauma-Violence Continuum” developed by J. Kevin Cameron and Dr. Marleen Wong will be expanded upon as “serious violence can beget trauma but trauma can also beget serious violence.”

Overview
As an integrated practice the TES Model of Crisis and Trauma Response focuses on four phases of assessment and intervention. Distinctions are made based on whether school(s) or a worksite(s) or the entire community is ground zero for primary interventions.

Children and Youth Focus

Phase I: Initial Response: Child and Youth System (e.g., schools, sports teams, clubs or church youth groups, etc.)

Phase II: Comprehensive Strategic Assessment: Adult Systems (e.g., teachers, coaches, support workers, etc.)

Phase III: Community Intervention: Parent & Family System

Phase IV: Traumatic Aftermath: Preparing for the Process of Recovery

Workplace Focus

Phase I: Initial Response: Frontline Staff in the Workplace

Phase II: Comprehensive Strategic Assessment: Adult Systems (e.g., managers & leaders, affiliates, etc.)

Phase III: Community Intervention: Spouse/Partner & Family System

Phase IV: Traumatic Aftermath: Preparing for the Process of Recovery

High-Impact Crises or High-Profile Traumatic Events

Combination of the above
