Lindsey Moses and Meridith Ogden's book, What are the Rest of My Kids Doing? Fostering Independence in the K-2 Reading Workshop, is the authors' response to the questions, "During reading, what kinds of meaningful work can students be doing independently," so that teachers are able to respond to student learning needs in small groups or individually. The book outlines "purposeful learning experiences" to build independence throughout the school year.
Moses and Ogden provide lesson plans, assessment tools, classroom vignettes to demonstrate how your reading block can become a time of meaningful learning for everyone.
