Series Overview:

For too long, classrooms have operated under industrial-age norms, often sidelining genuine student thinking in favour of mimicking. This series delves into over 15 years of research, revealing practical practices to transform your classroom into a vibrant space where students actively think and engage. All sessions will draw extensively from the insights and practices detailed in the Building Thinking Classrooms books for grades K-12, from the book that started it all to the two new task books: Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classroom, K-5 and the forthcoming Grades 6-12 edition (expected October 2025).

Session 1: Experience the Thinking Classroom Firsthand

Step into the role of a student to experience the core practices of a Thinking Classroom firsthand. Following the experience, we’ll unpack the key teacher moves used to demonstrate how these practices effectively elicit and nurture student thinking from day one.

Session 2: Weaving Thinking Classroom Practices into Curriculum

Discover how to seamlessly weave Thinking Classroom practices into your daily curriculum. We'll explore practical approaches for teaching content effectively while fostering deep student engagement and understanding.

Session 3: Cultivating Student Responsibility in Thinking Classrooms

This session focuses on key practices from the Building Thinking Classroom framework designed to empower students. Learn how to foster true student responsibility and ownership for their learning, and transform collective classroom discoveries into individual student mastery
