Shelley Kirkvold

Designer of Professional Learning

Shelley Kirkvold brings 25 years of dedicated experience in the field of education: ten years as an educational assistant and fifteen years within Holy Spirit Catholic Schools. Passionate about teaching high school social studies, Shelley incorporates knowledge shared by Elders and Knowledge Keepers to support the infusion of Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing into the curriculum. She inspires students to explore history and society with curiosity and understanding.

Over the past four years, she has served as Coordinator of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Initiatives, collaborating closely with the Niitsitapi team to support both teachers and students. Honored with the Blackfoot name Kakatosana’ksi (Star Singing Woman) by Elder Dorothy Day Chief, Shelley holds the responsibility of advocating for students. Her lasting commitment to fostering inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments is evident in her ongoing work and advocacy within the educational community.

Recently retired from her coordinator role, Shelley remains a lifelong learner who is grateful for the support and leadership she has experienced throughout her career. She is excited to join the Professional Learning team at The Consortium: South Office.
